We also have the option of recording and archiving broadcasts as they happen using Nicecast.
find info here about installing nicecast on your computer.
when launching Nicecast, make sure to follow these steps before starting the broadcast:
1.) click window>show server to configure a new server as follows (the info below is for the kchung main stream. for info on configuring the remote stream see remote broadcast
name: kchung radio
server type: shoutcast
password: (see staff resources for password info)
server address: s9.voscast.com
public url: [automatic]
2.) make sure the button next to the server you've configured is clicked on, selecting this as the server you'll be streaming to.
3.) click window>show broadcast. select a source (this can be an application such as itunes or the computer's audio input)
4.) add info about the stream under "info" (this can be anything descriptive about the show, especially useful if it is a remote broadcast)
5.) set the stream quality to 96kbps 44.100kHz stereo
6.) create a NowPlaying.txt file if you would like to display artist / title information along with the stream
1.) click this link to stop the automated archive playback if it is running--otherwise nicecast will not be able to connect to the server. (be careful!: these are active links that may disrupt an existing broadcast)
2.) click "start broadcast" in nicecast
...when you are done, follow these steps to stop the broadcast:
1.) click "stop broadcast" in nicecast, then quit nicecast
2.) click this link to return to automation:
Nicecast can reads track titles manually from a text file. This file must be located at ~/Library/Application Support/Nicecast/NowPlaying.txt Make sure it’s a plain text file (.txt), and follow this format:
save whenever you make a change, and Nicecast will pick up the change and relay it to the streaming server in a minute or so.
1.) before starting a broadcast, click Window>Nicecast Archiving and configure the Format as follows (you won't be able to change these settings once broadcast has started):
channels: mono (you can do stereo if you want, but traditionally we've archived in mono)
bitrate: 128Kbps (should be grayed out anyways)
archive folder: (select the folder where you'd like the recordings to go)
2.) when you are ready to begin recording, click the "Archive" button to start the recording process (it will appear darker gray). If you click the button to start before starting broadcast, recording will begin as soon as broadcast starts (while recording is in progress, a counter will show time and file size increasing).
3.) click the "Archive" button again to stop the recording process (the button will again appear lighter gray and the counters for time and file size will go away).
Files will be created in the folder you selected as the "archive folder" with a filename like "Nicecast Archived Audio 20151013 1300.aiff". the timestamp at the end of the filename refers to the time and date that the recording was started (in the example of this filename, the recording started at 1pm (i.e. 13:00 in 24hr time) on october 13, 2015). if you want to search for the time a recording stopped, search for / sort files by "date modified" using finder.
